What it means to REALLY connect to your Inner Child

The painting in this blog post shows myself with my inner child. (It’s a work in progress that I started in 2025.)

For me it was quite a long journey to REALLY love myself. I’m still learning. Coming in contact with my inner child was fundamental on this journey towards my self-love.

The inner child in ourselves is pure divine light, well on the one hand.

But on the other hand the inner child also holds the painful feelings and rejections that we suffered in our childhood. As grownups we tend to run away from those painful feelings through distractions, running from one relationship to another, addictions to TV, food, work, etc.

It does take courage to really feel those painful feelings and rejections from our childhood to finally heal.

Have you heard about Inner Bonding®? It’s a self-healing process by Dr. Margaret Paul and Erika J. Chopich that helped me a lot to really understand my inner child and to really connect to it.

Really connecting with your inner child…

…means to really connect to yourself, and to really feel painful feelings instead of running away from it.

.

…means to take responsibility for your own needs and feelings instead of expecting other people to make you happy.

.

…means to be a loving mum and a loving dad for yourself, to nourish yourself.

.

…means to learn to give yourself the love that you are longing for so deeply.

To really connect with this precious inner child in myself is so profound and so healing and soothing for me.

If you had a difficult or painful childhood it might make you a little bit sad, if you connect to your inner child.

But even if there can be maybe lots of sadness or anger at first…

…If you connect to your inner child,
and if that child starts to trust you again:

* Miracles can happen! *

Why is that?

Because there is an incredible source of happiness inside of yourself.

Your inner child is that source of inner happiness!

I’ve experienced that for myself. So I want to share it with you.

If you look at my paintings, maybe you feel this inner laughter or this rememberance:

„Oh, there’s something inside of myself that feels connected.“ 🙂
